{"id":36634,"date":"2013-04-15T16:54:41","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T13:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=36634"},"modified":"2013-04-15T16:54:41","modified_gmt":"2013-04-15T13:54:41","slug":"central-africa-republic-crisis-national-transitional-council-elects-coup-leader-as-interim-president-africa-news-36634","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/central-africa-republic-crisis-national-transitional-council-elects-coup-leader-as-interim-president-africa-news-36634\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Africa Republic Crisis: National Transitional Council elects coup leader as interim President \/ Africa News"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36642\" alt=\"mr.djotodia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia-180x120.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia-280x186.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/mr.djotodia-540x360.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h1>The National Transitional Council in the Central African Republic has elected coup leader Michel Djotodia as the interim President of the country.<\/h1>\n<p>Mr. Djotodia was the only candidate and was elected unanimously by all the 105 members of the National Transitional Council in a ceremony that was attended by political leaders, the press and representatives of international organizations accredited in the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n<p>The National Transitional Council is an advisory and law-making body of the Central Africa Republic and is made up of 105 members.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Djotodia ousted President Francois Bozize last month in a bloody coup uprising, killing 13 South African soldiers who were on peacekeeping mission in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Djotodia before this election proclaimed himself as President which raised a lot of concerns across Africa as to how he can lead the affairs of the country through that mandate.<\/p>\n<p>He said then that he will rule for 3 years before elections will be held and it also prompted concerns from opinion leaders in the country of which some voiced their discontent to what he said then.<\/p>\n<p>This election by the National Transitional Council will see him in power for the next 18 months after which fresh elections will be held nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The African Union has not commented on this current development but it is believe the AU is not happy at the trend of events in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Djotodia resigned as defence minister in Mr. Bozize administration and joined the Seleka rebels to overthrow Mr. Bozize\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bozize is currently in the Republic of Benin seeking political asylum from his deposers and it is unclear what his plans are in the future about the Central Africa Republic.<\/p>\n<p>The African Union has suspended the Central Africa Republic and demanded that the country returns to democratic rule.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Africa Republic neighbors are reportedly angry over the coup and have all fallen out with this current leaders of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The International Community is also believed not to be happy about the election of Mr. Djotodia although some attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Africa Republic has an unstable history and extremely poor living conditions although it has large deposits of minerals including gold, diamonds among others.<\/p>\n<p><b>Issaka Adams \/ NationalTurk Africa News<\/b><\/p>\n<!-- Error, Advert is not available at this time due to schedule\/geolocation restrictions!
