Railway officials have said that the train crash\u00a0occurred during the morning rush hour \u00a0at Halle, south-west of Brussels\u00a0and was full of passengers.<\/h2>\n

The local mayor told Belgian media that at least 20 people had been killed in the crash, but railway officials could not confirm the figure.<\/p>\n

footage from local TV media shows the injured being carried away with some people lying on the floor.<\/p>\n

Belgian media said the trains collided in snowy conditions.<\/p>\n

Mayor Dirk Pieters said “the most recent information we have is that 20 people died”.<\/p>\n

The trains collided in the commuter town around 08.30 local time Monday.<\/p>\n

Railway services in the area, including the high-speed line between Paris and Brussels, have been blocked.<\/p>\n

Eurostar said services between Paris and Brussels were cancelled until further notice.<\/p>\n

Witnesses described overturned carriages and emergency workers said there was considerable damage to the overhead power lines at the station in Buizingen, the district of Halle where the trains crashed.<\/p>\n
