{"id":3970,"date":"2010-02-16T14:03:36","date_gmt":"2010-02-16T12:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=3970"},"modified":"2010-02-16T14:03:36","modified_gmt":"2010-02-16T12:03:36","slug":"scout-dies-highlands-avalanche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/scout-dies-highlands-avalanche\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenage Scout dies in Highlands avalanche"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3971\" title=\"Teenager Killed In Avalanche\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Teenager-Killed-In-Avalanche.jpg\" alt=\"Teenager Killed In Avalanche\" width=\"460\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Teenager-Killed-In-Avalanche.jpg 460w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Teenager-Killed-In-Avalanche-280x175.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/>A teenage scout was killed in a Highlands avalanche in front of his mother.<\/h1>\n<h2>The incident occurred yesterday during a scouting trip.<\/h2>\n<p>The teenager named as Stephen Young, was on a Scout trip when he went under the avalanche on 3701ft  in Inverness-shire.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic incident was witnessed by Young&#8217;s mother who was also in the group and by members of an English mountain rescue team who were on an exercise in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen was flown by helicopter to hospital in Fort William but pronounced dead on arrival.<\/p>\n<p>He hit the headlines two years ago after spending a year camping in his garden to raise money for charity.<\/p>\n<p>The Explorer Scout, from Borough Green, near Sevenoaks, Kent, collected \u00a32500 for a children&#8217;s hospice.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, Scout Association spokesman Simon Carter said: &#8220;Stephen was part of an experienced, all-adult group who were on their annual trip to the region to expand their winter hillwalking skills.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our thoughts and prayers are with Stephen&#8217;s family and friends at this very sad time.<\/p>\n<p>A report on the incident will be sent to the procurator fiscal.<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
