Pakistan\u2019s newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh are likely to meet in September this year.<\/h1>\n

Islamabad, July 2\/Nationalturk – Pakistan\u2019s newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh are likely to meet in September this year to give impetus to relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cNawaz Sharif and Indian PM Manmohan Singh might meet in September on sidelines of United Nations General Assembly sesssion,\u201d said Pakistan PM\u2019s close aide and special adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz after meeting Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Brunei.<\/p>\n

Aziz is leading a Pakistan\u2019s delegation to ASEAN Foreign Ministers\u2019 meeting, which started on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He told reporters that he and Indian External Affairs Minister during their 20-minute meeting reviewed the confidence building measures between the two countries.<\/p>\n

First high-level contact between India, Pakistan<\/h2>\n

It was the first high-level contact between Pakistan and India since Nawaz Sharif became the prime minister of Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe discussed bilateral issues and ways to further improve relations between the two countries. Pakistan wants to build strong relationship with India and there is a possibility of meeting between Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in September on sidelines of United Nations General Assembly session,\u201d Aziz said.<\/p>\n

Nawaz had invited Singh to oath-taking ceremony<\/h3>\n

Nawaz Sharif had invited Indian PM to his oath-taking ceremony in June. The Indian premier, however, refused to accept the invitation, saying he would visit the country at an appropriate time.<\/p>\n

Nawaiz during his election campaign had made several positive statements of improving the ties with India and giving it the most favoured nation status.<\/p>\n

According to political observers, if the summit level talks between India and Pakistan materialise, then it would help in reducing mistrust between the two countries. “It would help in reviving peace process between the two countries,” they said.<\/p>\n

The two countries have held several rounds of talks to resolve all outstanding issues between two countries including Sir Creek, Siachen glacier, Kashmir issue, water issue and other smaller issues.<\/p>\n
