Andy Murray is the 2013 Wimbledon men’s champion after producing the performance of his life to beat Novak Djokovic – the world No 1 – in straight sets.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was superb in the searing heat of Centre Court, winning 6-4 6-4 6-4 and ending Britain’s 77-year wait for a men’s winner at the All England Club.<\/p>\n

Having broken Djokovic’s serve in the third set to go 5-4 ahead, Murray triumphed in an epic tenth game to win.<\/p>\n

The opening moments of this match set the tone for a incredible tussle and proved why Murray and Djokovic are ranked No 1 and 2 in the world.<\/p>\n

As the sun beat down on Centre Court, Murray quickly put pressure on Djokovic’s serve immediately and had three break points.<\/p>\n

The Serbian fought back, however, but it wasn’t to last for long.<\/p>\n

Murray held, before breaking Djokovic in an unbelievable game that included a 25-stroke rally at 30-40.<\/p>\n

His opponent broke back to level things at 2-2, before Murray broke Djokovic’s serve for a second time. That was enough to take the first set 6-4 as Centre Court – which hosted Wayne Rooney, David Cameron, Ed Miliband and several other famous faces – roared with approval.<\/p>\n

But hopes of a Murray win were put in check early in the second set as Djokovic broke to go 4-1 ahead.<\/p>\n

Andy Murray, however, donned a cap as the sun beat down and put the heat on the Serb by winning three in a row.<\/p>\n

A break of serve at 5-5 – one that even brought the usually calm Ivan Lendl to his feet – helped Murray into a two-set lead.<\/p>\n

Incredibly, the charge continued apace. The Brit, undeterred by the searing heat, broke Djokovic early in the third.<\/p>\n

Yet the Serb didn’t give up hope and broke Murray’s serve again to level the third set at 2-2 before winning the next two games to go 4-2 up.<\/p>\n

Murray was again undeterred and immediately broke back, before producing one of the shots of the match to hold serve in a tense eighth game of the set.<\/p>\n

And he left fans with their mouths wide open as he broke Djokovic to serve for the match and the championship.<\/p>\n

“Murray, Murray!” cried Centre Court in between games.<\/p>\n
