{"id":40300,"date":"2013-07-16T11:58:31","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T08:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=40300"},"modified":"2013-07-16T11:58:31","modified_gmt":"2013-07-16T08:58:31","slug":"pakistan-likely-to-elect-new-president-on-august-6-40300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/pakistan-likely-to-elect-new-president-on-august-6-40300\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan likely to elect new president on August 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_40302\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40302\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40302\" alt=\"Pakistan lawmakers to elect president on August 6.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Pakistan-President-Voting-Nationalturk-16.jpg\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40302\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pakistan lawmakers to elect president on August 6.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1>After electing new Prime Minister in June this month, Pakistan is likely to elect new president on August 6.<\/h1>\n<p>Islamabad, July 16\/Nationalturk \u2013 Pakistan is likely to elect new president on August 6, media reports said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresidential elections have been scheduled for August 6 by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and proposal has been sent to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhrudin G Ibrahim in this regard,\u201d Pakistan newspaper Express Tribune reported while quoting sources.<\/p>\n<p>It said Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan approved the date for presidential elections. \u201cAccording to the official schedule, July 24 will be the last day to submit nomination papers for presidential polls\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said the nomination papers will be scrutinized till July 26. \u201cThe approved and official nominees will be introduced on July 29 and the returning officers for elections will be selected by CEC\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting sources, the newspaper reported that ECP implemented Article 41 of Pakistan constitution which states the process of electing a president must begin at least two months and elections be conducted a month before the end of President\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presidential elections would be held on August 6 while results would be announced on August 7,\u201d sources added.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s current President Asif Ali Zardari\u2019s last day in office is scheduled for September 8, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan National Assembly (lower house of parliament), Senate (upper house of parliament) and four provincial assemblies are the electoral college for the election of the President in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson of Election Commission of Pakistan said the commission has written to secretaries of all provincial assemblies, National Assembly and the Senate seeking lists of their members. \u201cThe members\u2019 list would be used as the voters\u2019 list for the presidential election. The Election Commission has also completed the printing of 500 two-page nomination forms for the polls\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>Zardari won\u2019t contest presidential election for 2nd term: Aide<\/h2>\n<p>Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari\u2019s close aide and spokesman Farhatullah Babar said Zardari&#8217;s five-year term comes to an end on September 8, 2013. \u201cHe won&#8217;t contest elections for a second term, but will likely tend to party affairs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, rejected media reports and said Zardari will not resign from his office before completion of his five-year tenure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZardari was a democratically elected presidential and will stay till the time stipulated in the constitution. He was presently in Dubai to meet his children from where he will go to London to meet his daughter.
