He wanted to go home, he ended up in jail Istanbul:\u00a0Volkan Ozer, 30, had to undress, was not allowed to go to the bathroom and saw how badly the prisoners were treated.\u00a0Until a week ago Volkan was apolitical. Now he is part of the generation Gezi.<\/h1>\n

Volkan Ozer now know how it feels to be arrested:\u00a0The wrists ache.\u00a0He now knows what it’s like to stay in a prison cell:\u00a0Sometime you sleep then but. And he knows how much he can believe in justice:\u00a0not at all.<\/p>\n

Volkan\u00a0Ozer, 30, is a film producer.\u00a0He turns commercials for Red Bull and lives in Cihangir, a district of Istanbul, close to Istiklal Street.\u00a0When asked what political view he has, then he says:\u00a0none at all. But he is more worried about his country than ever before. “This is about human rights,” he says.<\/p>\n

The last few weeks have made him angry, the police harassment, the water cannons, the tear gas. And not only him:\u00a0Turkish protests have brought together a generation politicized in record time.\u00a0Educated, multilingual, cross-linked. Young people who have almost never protested before Gezi – and now go on the road constantly. Young people like Volkan \u00d6zer.<\/p>\n

On Saturday \u00d6zer sits in the shade of an awning, put the sunglasses in her hair;\u00a0A waitress brings orange juice, honey and cheese.\u00a0He will tell you how it’s gotten into in the protests, jail.\u00a0At the police his story can hardly be checked.\u00a0. On the phone the Istanbul police press office says only:\u00a0To the Volkan Ozer case they would not comment.\u00a0But there are photos, statements from friends and his lawyer, and reports from other prisoners.<\/p>\n

Turkey Gezi Park Protests:\u00a0“Do you have a press pass?”<\/h2>\n

Before last Monday, it was the day on which the Gezipark hours and was only officially opened then closed, \u00d6zer just came from work.\u00a0It was a beautiful day.\u00a0So he decided to walk home.\u00a0On Istiklal marched heavily armed police, as for weeks.<\/p>\n

Volkan\u00a0\u00d6zer was in a side street stand, he tells it, he wanted to make a few shots of this madness in his city.\u00a0Since rushed a police officer.\u00a0“Do you have a press pass?” He asked.\u00a0“I’m not from the press,” said Ozer.\u00a0“Then here you are not allowed to take pictures,” said the policeman.\u00a0Suddenly flew a bottle and shattered on the asphalt. People were running, it was noisy, the policeman shouted at him.<\/p>\n

“It’s because of you!”<\/p>\n

“I’m just photos.”<\/p>\n

“Only photos you’ll write on Facebook and Twitter that we shot with tear gas.”<\/p>\n

“Have you but also,” Ozer said.<\/p>\n

A sentence too much.\u00a0Four police officers clutched his arms and dragged him on the Istiklal.\u00a0“Where are you taking me?” Said Ozer.\u00a0They did not answer.\u00a0\u00d6zer knew that you have to scream his name during arrests. So he shouted:\u00a0“Volkan Ozer!” The louder he got, the more squeezed the officers his hands, he recalls.\u00a0Passers photograph the arrest, sent the pictures on Twitter.<\/p>\n

At the police station to \u00d6zer had to move out, it was after midnight.\u00a0His clothes was studied.\u00a0He had stairs, down stairs, sign forms.\u00a0Like a labyrinth.\u00a0Tomorrow they take me to court, he thought.<\/p>\n

At two in the morning he lay with a clock other prisoners in a cell, he reported it.\u00a0They were also arrested that day on Istiklal.\u00a0Some slept on benches, others on yoga mats.\u00a0Some of them had experience with these things.\u00a0You’ll be fine, they said.\u00a0The heat was in the cell.\u00a0“What about the air conditioning?” Ozer said.\u00a0Broken, said the overseer.<\/p>\n

The next morning, it was probably neun clock, they knew it not, for they had taken away the watches, Ozer passed through the cell.\u00a0Policemen came and went. \u00d6zer had to go to the bathroom, but the guards would not let him.<\/p>\n

The other prisoners go on hunger strike.\u00a0And there was not hungry anyway \u00d6zer sheer stress, he joined them.\u00a0They sat around, talked, slept. The guards took beans and rice.\u00a0No one ate.\u00a0Tomorrow they will take me to court, thought \u00d6zer.<\/p>\n

The police wanted to take fingerprints and take pictures.\u00a0Individual prisoners resist.\u00a0Ozer saw police turn their arms.\u00a0“The do not behave like humans,” he says.\u00a0“Rather like robots.”<\/p>\n

You did not bring him to court.\u00a0Not on Monday.\u00a0Not on Tuesday. Not on Wednesday.\u00a0In one of the nights, it was quite two clock, they were awakened.\u00a0You can now make a call, said the overseer.\u00a0“At this hour?” Said Ozer.<\/p>\n

In the penultimate night \u00d6zer then experienced a miracle.\u00a0A policeman came to her cell, he spoke softly and gently.\u00a0“I’m one of you,” he said.\u00a0“Have no fear, on Thursday we will bring you to judgment.”<\/p>\n

Indeed \u00d6zer was then on the Thursday before a prosecutor for the first time in his life, he was nervous.\u00a0His lawyer presented photos of the arrest.\u00a0They were proof that Volkan had not resisted.\u00a0The proof of his innocence.<\/p>\n

Volkan\u00a0Ozer is free now.\u00a0But his confidence in the state Republic of Turkey he has lost.\u00a0“The Turkish judicial system is like a business,” he says.\u00a0“The boss instructs the employees perform.”<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
