{"id":40694,"date":"2013-07-24T13:10:19","date_gmt":"2013-07-24T10:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=40694"},"modified":"2013-07-24T13:10:19","modified_gmt":"2013-07-24T10:10:19","slug":"bulgaria-clashviolent-clashes-broke-out-after-hundreds-of-protesters-barricaded-bulgaria-breaking-news-40694","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/bulgaria-clashviolent-clashes-broke-out-after-hundreds-of-protesters-barricaded-bulgaria-breaking-news-40694\/","title":{"rendered":"Bulgaria Clash:Violent clashes broke out after hundreds of protesters barricaded Bulgaria \/ Breaking News"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bulgaria-Clash-Protests.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40706\" title=\"Bulgaria-Clash-Protests\" alt=\"Riot police officers block protesters outside the parliament building in Sofia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bulgaria-Clash-Protests.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bulgaria-Clash-Protests.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bulgaria-Clash-Protests-280x156.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h1>Anti-corruption protests that have been peacefully going on for 40 days reached a climax in Bulgaria when demonstrators trapped a hundred ministers, lawmakers and journalists inside the parliament for over eight hours, urging the government to resign.<\/h1>\n<p>Nearly 10 people had to be taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, including two police officers, after 2,000 people took to the streets of the capital of Sofia.<\/p>\n<p>Police armed with shields and batons had to rescue 100 lawmakers who had been trapped inside the besieged building for more than eight hours.<\/p>\n<p>Officers tried to escort the politicians out by bus but anti-corruption protesters, shouting \u00a0&#8220;mafia&#8221; and &#8220;resign&#8221;, hurled plastic bottles at the bus.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of Bulgarians have taken to the streets of the capital every day for 40 days since the government announced the appointment of a powerful media magnate as security chief.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters see the move as an increasing example of private interests controlling state institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The government&#8217;s withdrawal of the appointment last month failed to quell public discontent in the EU&#8217;s poorest country and protesters are now calling for the cabinet&#8217;s resignation.<\/p>\n<p>Interior minister Tsvetlin Yovchev: &#8220;Police reacted very adequately, policemen did their job perfectly although protesters behaved extremely aggressively.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will try to find those who threw stones at police and deputies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say seven protesters had to be treated for head injuries and two police officers were also hurt.<\/p>\n<p>The president, Rosen Plevneliev, has appealed to protesters and police to keep the demonstrations peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement he said: &#8220;I appeal to the protesters to keep the protest the way it was and the way it impressed all Europe &#8211; peaceful, civilised and aimed at achieving the values of a democratic society.&#8221;<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
