{"id":40929,"date":"2013-07-29T12:25:38","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T09:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=40929"},"modified":"2013-07-29T12:25:38","modified_gmt":"2013-07-29T09:25:38","slug":"2-climbers-from-new-zealand-go-missing-on-k-2-mountain-in-pakistan-40929","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/2-climbers-from-new-zealand-go-missing-on-k-2-mountain-in-pakistan-40929\/","title":{"rendered":"2 climbers from New Zealand go missing on K-2 mountain in Pakistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_40931\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40931\" style=\"width: 278px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40931\" alt=\"Mountaineers climbing in K2 peak in Pakistan: File Pic\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/K2-Range-Pakistan-Nationalturk-29.jpg\" width=\"278\" height=\"181\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mountaineers climbing in K2 peak in Pakistan: File Pic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1>In yet another instance of foreign climbers going missing in country, two climbers from New Zealanders, who were on expedition to scale world\u2019s second highest mountain K-2 in Karakoram range in Pakistan, have gone missing.<\/h1>\n<p>Islamabad, July 29\/Nationalturk \u2013 Two climbers from New Zealanders, who were on expedition to scale world\u2019s second highest mountain K-2 in Karakoram range in Pakistan, have gone missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartin Walter Schmidt and his son Denali Walter Schmidt went missing on Sunday afternoon while they were on an expedition to scale K-2 (8,611 metres high) in Pakistan,\u201d Alpine Club of Pakistan said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It said father-son duo had successfully reached Camp III at 7,400 metres on July25. \u201cThe rest of the climbers accompanying the duo had decided to descend from the peak and return to base camp\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It further said the Nepali Sherpas accompanying the father-son duo had turned back due to adverse weather conditions and threat of avalanches.<\/p>\n<p>Avalanches had reportedly struck Camp IV, present at 8000 metres.<\/p>\n<h2>Base camp leader lost contact with Kiwi climbers on July 26<\/h2>\n<p>The club said the base camp group leader Australian Christopher Mellor Madden Warner lost contact with the Kiwi mountaineers on July 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Nepali Sherpa, who was sent to Camp III a day later to ascertain the location of the Kiwi mountaineers, reported yesterday (July 28) that they could not be located in the Camp III tent. The tent showed signs of having been hit by an avalanche. The mountaineer\u2019s ice axes and crampons were found intact,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>It is being presumed that both the climbers might have been swept down by an avalanche.<\/p>\n<h3>Operation to trace missing mountaineers launched<\/h3>\n<p>The authorities have launched a rescue operation to trace missing New Zealand climbers.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, this month three Iranian and three Spanish climbers went missing during the expeditions.
