The African Union observer mission in the Zimbabwean election has stated that the presidential and parliamentary elections held on Wednesday were free, honest and credible.<\/h1>\n

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) described the election as a “huge farce”, alleging widespread of irregularities and vote rigging.<\/p>\n

But the African Union Observer Mission head, Olusegun Obasanjo said the incidents reported during Wednesday’s poll could not “change the outcome”.<\/p>\n

First official results from the Parliamentary elections show that Mr. Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party has taken an early lead and the party is claiming victory.<\/p>\n

An anonymous senior figure in the Zanu-PF party reportedly told the Reuters News Agency that the Zanu-PF party had won the election and that they are only waiting for the full count of the poll as the constitution mandates the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n

“We’ve taken this election. We’ve buried the MDC. We never had any doubt that we were going to win,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Police have won that they will deal with anyone who tries to make public declaration or leak early results of the election.<\/p>\n

The Electoral Commission has five days before announcing the results and many analysts say the election might prove to be the best since independence of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
