Tottenham take on Monaco on Saturday without Gareth Bale, who misses the pre-season friendly in the Principality through injury ahead of a likely defining week for his forecast world record transfer to Real Madrid.<\/p>\n

Eyes will be as much on Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United as they will be on Gareth Bale and Real.<\/p>\n

The transfer market is rife with speculation that Gareth Bale sealing a move to Spain, could trigger several moves, not least of which is Ronaldo to Old Trafford, and then, possibly Wayne Rooney to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid sign Gareth Bale<\/h2>\n

Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United this summer if Real Madrid sign Gareth Bale, according to Red Devils legend Denis Irwin.<\/p>\n

The Portugal international has been linked with a return to the club he left in 2009 for a world record \u00a380million throughout the summer, but Madrid president Florentino Perez recently said he was confident that the 28-year-old, who is out of contract in 2015, was set to sign an extension through to 2018.
\nRonaldo last month took to Twitter to dismiss reports that a new deal had been agreed and is believed to be open to a return to Manchester, and last week it was reported that a\u00a0move could happen before the summer transfer window closes.And although Real insist Ronaldo is going nowhere, former United defender Irwin believes a deal for Tottenham winger Bale, which looks increasingly likely to happen this month, could lead to the Spanish giants cashing in on their prize asset.”So Manchester United have been linked for a second time this summer with a return to Old Trafford for Cristiano Ronaldo,”<\/div>\n

Irwin insists Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas remains United’s top transfer target and believes new manager David Moyes’ will “move heaven and earth” to sign the Spaniard.<\/p>\n

“United want to get Cesc Fabregas before the transfer window closes and preferably before the season starts on Saturday week,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

“Also, they want to keep rather than sell Wayne Rooney. I’d say those two deals are the most important bits of business in the in-tray of the bosses at United. If those two players are at the club next season, then it would be a fine summer.”<\/p>\n

Whether Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale can both play together at Real Madrid is not yet clear, but Bale would certainly put pressure Ronaldo for his place in the team.<\/p>\n

The suggestions are that Rooney and United are ready to move on \u2013 whether that is with him staying or moving to London is not yet clear.<\/p>\n

The Wales superstar bid “an emotional farewell” to his teammates in London on Friday, autographing their shirts before they left for Monte Carlo,\u00a0 according to a report in The Sun.<\/p>\n

The Spurs forward sits out Saturday evening’s match, and may also miss Wales’ friendly against Ireland in Cardiff on August 14, with a minor hamstring problem.<\/p>\n

As Bale works on his fitness Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will sit down for his first face-to-face talks with his Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez in Miami next week, possibly on Wednesday, The Times suggested.<\/p>\n

Real are in Florida where Levy has a holiday home for a pre-season warm-up.<\/p>\n

They are keen to see Gareth Bale<\/a> at the Bernabeu ahead of their opening league game against Real Betis on August 18.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old is set to become the most expensive player of all time, an honour currently held by Cristiano Ronaldo who moved from Manchester United to Real for 94 million euros ($125 million, \u00a382 million) in 2009.<\/p>\n

Levy is reportedly holding out for a transfer fee in excess of \u00a3105 million while Real are looking to strike a deal at around \u00a385 million with a makeweight, possibly Fabio Coentrao, thrown in.<\/p>\n
