Europe’s arch-rivals at Wembley once again share their trump card, England\u00a0and Germany will never does matches for friendly.<\/h1>\n

England’s rivalry with Germany has always been a one-sided affair, with DieMannschaft\u00a0more concerned with their clashes against the Netherlands than the remote island country still using old war jokes to provide context to their meetings.<\/p>\n

After slipping to their first defeat in 11 matches against Chile, England will be looking to bounce back in style when they take on Germany at Wembley on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Three Lions memorably lost 4-1 in their last match against their old rivals at the 2010 World Cup and are outsiders at 19\/10 (2.90) with Betway to gain some revenge with victory this evening.<\/p>\n

While Roy Hodgson decided to use the Chile game as an opportunity to offer a number of fresh faces to impress, his counterpart fielded more or less the strongest side available for Friday’s clash with Italy.<\/p>\n

However, the roles are set to be reversed this evening, with Low intent on trying out an “experimental” line-up against a home team featuring the returning Daniel Sturridge and captain Steven Gerrard, meaning no Manuel Neuer, Mesut Ozil or Philip Lahm, not to mention the injured Sami Khedira.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0Die Mannschaft\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0impressive talent pool means there are plenty of strong players ready to step into the side, all those changes cannot help but destabilise the visitors, meaning another high-scoring friendly encounter could be on the cards.<\/p>\n

Mesut\u00a0Ozil,\u00a0Philipp\u00a0Lahm\u00a0and Manuel\u00a0Neuer\u00a0will not feature for Germany at\u00a0Wembley, opening the door for a number of talented understudies from the\u00a0Bundesliga\u00a0to make their name on the international stage.<\/p>\n

This shuffling of the pack by Low will make for a number of interesting tactical battles, as Germany’s lesser-played stars attempt to play their way into contention for Brazil while England’s internationals seek to boost their morale and momentum after a shocking 2-0 defeat to Chile.<\/p>\n

Below is a rundown of the three key battles along with a scoreline prediction and short preview.<\/p>\n

England vs Germany: Key Battles<\/h2>\n

Daniel\u00a0Strurridge\u00a0vs. Mats\u00a0Hummels<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Liverpool striker returns to the England fold after missing out on facing Chile through injury.<\/p>\n

Not only is the former Manchester City prodigy one-half of the Premier League’s hottest strike force at present, but he’s also an important player for his country, having emerged to lead the line with distinction since his move to Merseyside.<\/p>\n

When he isn’t attacking the box himself to score goals, he can be found creating space for others with his runs from out wide and movement around the opposition’s penalty area.<\/p>\n

It’ll be up to\u00a0Borussia\u00a0Dortmund’s Mats\u00a0Hummels\u00a0to keep a check onSturridge, with Per\u00a0Mertesackerlacking the mobility to cope with the striker one-on-one.<\/p>\n

Hummels\u00a0is by no means a speedster but is far more agile than the towering Arsenal\u00a0centre-back, and it will be his job to track the Liverpool striker’s movements as well as remaining wise to the gaps that could open up should he be displaced by marking the Englishman.<\/p>\n

Phil\u00a0Jagielka\u00a0vs. Thomas Muller<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the other end of the pitch,\u00a0Jagielka will face the perplexing dilemma of preventing Thomas Muller from dismantling England with his uncanny ability to find space at will.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bayern\u00a0Munich forward may not be quick, strong or exceptionally technical\u2014at least not in comparison with the other footballers he plays with week-in, week-out in Bavaria\u2014but he is the best in the world at what he does, which is killing teams by stealth.<\/p>\n

Jagielka is having an excellent season with Everton, but Muller will be a very different test from anything he has faced in the Premier League this year.<\/p>\n

With Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler and Marco Reus all set to line up behind Bayern’s attacking apparition too, it may not be his knack for scoring goals that wins the day for Germany but his capacity to drag opponents out of shape for others to take advantage.<\/p>\n

Andros Townsend vs.\u00a0MarcellJansen<\/strong><\/p>\n

fter stunning Montenegro by breaking the deadlock on his England debut, Andros Townsend has come in for some criticism over his club form of late.<\/p>\n

The Tottenham Hotspur winger’s overeagerness to take the ball on and attempt to score goals by himself has played its part in stagnating Andre Villas-Boas’ team’s disjointed attacking play.<\/p>\n

His ultra-direct approach has looked rather incompatible when blended with the natural instincts of Spurs’ more cultured summer arrivals from the continent such as Christian Eriksen.<\/p>\n

A goal against Germany would once again boost Townsend onto the back pages of the English football press and prove that he has what it takes to punish the major powers in the international game.<\/p>\n

Yet his determination to find the net could well exacerbate the negative byproducts of his approach as well as England’s general inability to hold onto the ball for an extended period of time.<\/p>\n

Marcell\u00a0Jansen is set to be his opponent down the flanks atWembley, and the Hamburg full-back looks to be the ideal man to not only snuff out Townsend but to take advantage of his style of play.<\/p>\n

Well regarded in the GermanBundesliga\u00a0for his passing accuracy, versatility (he can also play as a striker) and\u2014measuring 6’3″ in height\u2014physical presence,\u00a0Jansen could well a one-man source of counter-attacks for Die\u00a0Mannschaft.<\/p>\n

If Townsend is to play the hero again at\u00a0Wembley, he needs to make sure his\u00a0impetuous\u00a0nature is an asset and not a weakness for Hodgson’s side.<\/p>\n
