BBC One series Luther creator Neil Cross has said the show will not be returning to TV for a fourth series and big surprise for Idris Elba’s strange serial killer Alice Morgan return.<\/h1>\n

The show\u2019s star Idris Elba had previously hinted that the show \u2013 which recently ended its third series on BBC One \u2013 could be back for another run depending on the demand from fans.<\/p>\n

However the writer has now pretty much put paid to those rumours by telling fans at the Edinburgh Television Festival: \u2018The show\u2019s finished. Idris, as he should be, he\u2019s gone on to be a big movie star.\u2019<\/p>\n

Neil Cross \u00a0who also revealed he was working on a new series for US network NBC \u2013 went on to confirm the character would return on the big screen, saying \u2018I think there will be a Luther movie that\u2019s the plan.\u2019<\/p>\n

Elba recently offered his own views on Luther\u2019s future, saying: \u2018My personal ambition is to see this turn into a film. But I\u2019m very loyal to the audience.<\/p>\n

\u2018If the audience demands another season, or some variable on that, then it should happen I think.\u2019<\/p>\n

The actor was seen most recently in the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim and also stars as Nelson Mandela in the forthcoming Long Walk To Freedom.<\/p>\n

Cross said of the latter: \u2018I watched the trailer a couple of weeks ago and it\u2019s astonishing.<\/p>\n

\u2018Idris is a great actor \u2013 because he\u2019s so beautiful and charismatic and because he commands the screen so singularly, people forget he\u2019s a f**king astonishing actor,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

\u2018I can\u2019t think of a more high profile, risky role to play than Mandela. He\u2019s owned it.\u2019<\/p>\n

Long Walk To Freedom will be released in the UK in early 2014.<\/p>\n
