The Cameroonian armed forces have said that it has killed six gunmen from the troubled country of the Central Africa Republic who attacked a village where a military installation is found in the territory of Cameroon.<\/h1>\n

Cameroon and the Central Africa Republic shares border in the east and the army said the cross-border raid by the gunmen from the Central African Republic lasted for hours.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A Cameroonian soldier and a villager were said to have also been killed in the attack and one of the gunmen was captured by the Cameroonian forces.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is unclear the motive of the gunmen but local reporters say the border area has been tense since rebels in the Central Africa Republic ousted President Francois Bozize in March.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But some local reporters in Cameroon also report that the gunmen were suspected to have launched the attack in an attempt to free one of their leaders, Abdoulaye Miskine who was arrested in Cameroon in September on suspicious of planning to launch fresh attack on the Central Africa Republic, using Cameroon as a supply base.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Miskine, the leader of the Democratic Front of the Central African People (FPDC) broke away from the Seleka rebels who overthrow the government in March.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“For the moment the situation is under our total control, and order, peace and security has been restored in the attacked village,” the defence ministry said in a statement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon has said that communal violence in the Central African Republic risks getting out of control.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Ban warned the Security Council Tuesday that armed groups were inciting Christians and Muslims against each other and called for immediate establishment of a UN peacekeeping force to prevent any possible civil war.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In a report to the Security Council, he said violence in the Central Africa Republic \u201cthreatens to degenerate into a countrywide religious and ethnic divide, with the potential to spiral into an uncontrollable situation”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Central Africa Republic has been in turmoil since the Seleka rebels overthrow the government in March and has also experienced numerous coups and rebellions since independence from France in 1960.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
