In a major stride in fight against cancer, India has launched indigenously developed screening device \u2018AV Magni-Visualizer\u2019 for detecting cervical cancer in early stages.<\/h1>\n

New Delhi, Dec 24\/Nationalturk \u2013 India has launched indigenously developed screening device \u2018AV Magni-Visualizer\u2019 for detecting cervical cancer in early stages.<\/p>\n

The screening device, which was launched by Indian Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has been designed and developed at Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology (ICPO), NOIDA, which is involved in epidemiology and development of indigenous HPV vaccine.<\/p>\n

Officials said accuracy and efficacy of the Screening device has been evaluated through tests in five regions during the past two years. \u201cMagnivisualizer has been found to pick up 1.5 times more High grade pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions than the ordinary tungsten light,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

‘Scientists congratulated for developing cost-effective screening device’<\/h2>\n

While speaking on the occasion, Indian Health minister congratulated the scientists for designing and developing the cost-effective and affordable device for screening cervical cancer in its early stages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cervical cancer is still the number one killer cancer in several parts of rural and semi-urban India. It has been estimated that about 0.132 milion cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed every year and 74,000 deaths occur due to annually,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Azad said cervical cancer accounted for 9% of total deaths due to cancer in 2010. \u201cMany of the cases may still be going unreported in many rural areas taking the number even higher.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘AV Magni-Visualiser can easily screen, detect cervical cancer’<\/h3>\n

Referring to screening device \u2018AV Magni-Visualiser\u2019, Indian Health Minister said said it will be easy to screen and detect cervical cancer in its early stages, thus making treatment more effective.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt present screening for cervical cancer is available only in the regional cancer institutes and medical colleges in India. The equipment presently being used is expensive, as a result of which not many medical colleges can afford this equipment. But \u2018AV Magni-Visualizer\u2019 device is cost effective and will be first rolled out in the district and sub-district community health centres and subsequently in the primary health centres,\u201d Azad said adding doctors and other staff will form an important part of roll out plan.<\/p>\n
