Istanbul is celebrate Turkish master poet Naz\u0131m Hikmet\u2019s 112th birthday, \u2018My Homeland: The Lines on My Forehead\u2019<\/h1>\n

World renowned Turkish poetry master Naz\u0131m Hikmet\u2019s 112th birthday is set to be celebrated with an exclusive exhibition at Istanbul\u2019s Caddebostan Culture Center. Opening on Jan. 12, \u201cMy Homeland: The Lines on My Forehead\u201d (Aln\u0131m\u0131n \u00c7izgilerinde Memleketim) will continue through Feb. 7 for audiences seeking to discover Naz\u0131m Hikmet\u2019s unique artistic path.<\/p>\n

The book will also include a complete biography of the poet and many of his poems, as well as telling the story of his visits to different countries each year. It will be translated into a number of different languages.<\/p>\n

Nazim Hikmet died in exile in the Soviet Union in 1963, but Turkey returned honorary citizenship to him about four years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe state is just trying to compensate for it did in the past, but giving back citizenship is not enough. Naz\u0131m Hikmet spent his whole life in exile – he had a big hunger for his homeland,\u201d G\u00fcne\u015f said.
\nHe said that Vera had always told him that Turkey should return Naz\u0131m\u2019s passport, \u201cbut also make the gesture of including Naz\u0131m\u2019s work in the school curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n

A number of Hizmet\u2019s priceless belongings were found in the Urals region of Russia\u00a0three years ago, and it is now reported that Galina Kolesnikova, Hikmet\u2019s former doctor and an alleged former KGB agent, is preparing to sell the items for $1 million.<\/p>\n

G\u00fcne\u015f wants Turkish officials to protect the items and says he has informed Culture Minister Ertu\u011frul G\u00fcnay about the issue. G\u00fcne\u015f claims that the ministry said it was unable to purchase the items from Kolesnikova. Now 96-years-old, Kolesnikova is selling the items one by one.<\/p>\n\n
