File Pic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1>Pakistan special court hearing the treason case turned down the prosecution\u2019s plea to symbolically arrest the former military strongman General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, who is undergoing treatment in army hospital.<\/h1>\n<p>Islamabad, Jan 17\/Nationalturk\u2013 In a major boost to country\u2019s embattled former military ruler and president, Pakistan special court hearing the treason case turned down the prosecution\u2019s plea to symbolically arrest the former military strongman General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, who is undergoing treatment in army hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A three-judge bench special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab had summoned the former president on January 16 after giving its verdict pertaining to the proceedings of the case under criminal procedure.<\/p>\n<p>During today\u2019s proceedings, prosecutor Akram Sheikh pleaded that court order Musharraf\u2019s symbolic arrest. However, his plea was rejected by the court.<\/p>\n<p>After his plea was rejected, prosecutor Akram told the court who will be responsible if Musharraf left the country.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Faisal Arab replied that the court has been informed that Musharraf\u2019s name is already on the Exit Control List and as such he cannot leave the country.<\/p>\n<h2>Medical board to assess health condition of Musharraf<\/h2>\n<p>The special court hearing treason charges against 70-year-old \u00a0Musharraf for his November 2007 imposition of emergency had yesterday ordered setting up of a medical board to assess the health condition of former president. The court also exempted him from personal appearance in the court till January 23.<\/p>\n<p>The board comprising senior doctors of Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi, where Musharraf is undergoing treatment, was asked to ascertain Musharraf&#8217;s medical condition and submit its findings on January 24.<\/p>\n<p>Musharraf had fallen ill en route to the court on January 2 and was shifted to Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi, where he is undergoing treatment<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time in Pakistan&#8217;s history that a former military ruler is facing treason trial.
