Egypt’s judiciary is serious in its fight against unpopular journalists. The Attorney General in Cairo has brought charges against 20 employees of the news channel al-Jazeera. They are accused of membership in a terrorist organization.<\/h1>\n

Egypt’s prosecutor says journalists enemies of the state and terrorists. The chief prosecutor of the State Security represents 20 employees of the news channel al-Jazeera for alleged terrorist links in court.<\/p>\n

The indictment accuses the 16 Egyptian journalists membership in a terrorist organization. The four foreign employees – one Australian, one Dutch and two British – the dissemination of false news and supporting a terrorist group accused. Eight of the defendants are already in custody since December.<\/p>\n

The journalists had taken up in a luxury hotel in Cairo quarters after the studio of the radio station had been repeatedly raided by security forces. The prosecution are therefore referred to as “Marriott-cell”. Supposedly it should have been led by a Egyptian-Canadian member of the Muslim Brotherhood. During a search, the police have confiscated cameras and microphones in addition to, documents and leaflets of the Islamists.<\/p>\n

The royal family in Qatar, which finances Al-Jazeera , had supported the government of the freely elected Islamist President Mohammed Mursi . The transmitter had critical reports on the military coup in early July and documenting the protests against the coup and army chief Abdal – Fattah al – Sisi .
