{"id":47335,"date":"2014-02-13T10:49:10","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T08:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=47335"},"modified":"2024-02-17T13:24:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-17T10:24:18","slug":"india-has-extradition-treaties-with-37-nations-56-indians-deported-from-singapore-47335","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/india-has-extradition-treaties-with-37-nations-56-indians-deported-from-singapore-47335\/","title":{"rendered":"India has extradition treaties with 37 nations; 56 Indians deported from Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_47336\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47336\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47336\" alt=\"India has signed extradition treaties with many countries. \" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/India-Extradition-Treaty-Nationalturk-13.jpg\" width=\"259\" height=\"179\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47336\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">India has signed extradition treaties with many countries.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1>India has at present extradition treaties with 37 countries in the world.<\/h1>\n<p>New Delhi, Feb 13\/Nationalturk &#8211; \u00a0India has signed extradition treaties with 37 countries in the world while 46 Indian nationals were deported from Singpore for their involvement in the riots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia has extradition treaties in operation with 37 countries,\u201d Indian Minister of State in External Affairs Preneet Kaur told lawmakers in Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Extradition treaties define an offence as an extraditable offence if it is punishable under the laws in both the Contracting States by imprisonment for a period of at least one year.<\/p>\n<p>She said the countries with whom India has signed extradition treaties include Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Bhutan, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Tunisia, UK, USA, Uzbekistan, UAE, Ukraine and Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2011, India extradited seven criminals &#8211; four to USA for offences of murder, financial\/bank fraud, one to Croatia for drug related offences, one to Germany for murder and one to Australia for rape. One criminal was extradited to India from Peru for drug related offences, theft and fraud,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h2>India extradited 3 criminals in 2012<\/h2>\n<p>The Indian minister said in 2012, India extradited three criminals &#8211; one to USA for immigration fraud, and two to Australia for murder and rape. \u201cTwo criminals were extradited to India &#8211; one each from Germany and Saudi Arabia both for criminal conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2013, India extradited five criminals &#8211; four to USA for murder, intimidation, fraud, child rape &amp; sexual abuse and one to UK for kidnapping and false imprisonment. Three criminals were extradited to India from UAE on charges of criminal conspiracy and terrorism,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h3>56 Indian nationals repatriated from Singapore after riots<\/h3>\n<p>In reply to a question, Kaur said a group of 56 Indian nationals were deported from Singapore for allegedly participating in the riot or impeding riot control and emergency rescue operations.<\/p>\n<p>The riots were triggered by the death of an Indian national in a road accident in Little India in Singapore on 8 December 2013.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndian government has taken up the issue with senior Singapore authorities, both in Singapore and New Delhi, on a regular basis since the occurrence of the incident.
