Kenyan Beauty Star, Lupita Nyong\u2019o wins Oscar for the best Supporting Role for the First Time with movie of “12 Years A Slave”.<\/h1>\n

Kenyan actress and former Music Network face of Africa beauty, Lupita Nyong has won the Oscar for the first time in best supporting actress in her role as the hardworking slave Patsey in the drama “12 Years a Slave,” in Los Angeles on Sunday.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hollywood audience gave the shuga actress a thunderous standing ovation for her splendid performance in the feature film role. The film also won the best picture at the 86th Academy Awards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nyong’o beat fellow frontrunner Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of a loopy housewife in caper “American Hustle” in one of the most closely-watched Academy Award races this year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Mexican-born Kenyan actress exclaimed loudly when her name was mentioned as the winner and was joined on stage by the director of the film, Steve McQueen and other actors in the film to receive the award.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said after receiving the award that the award is a significant milestone in her career as an actress which will live in her memories forever.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s, and so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey, for her guidance\u2019\u2019, she said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The award marks Nyong’o’s coronation into the top echelon of dramatic actresses working in Hollywood. She has also polished her image as a new emblem of high fashion with her styles on the red carpet.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the film that gave him this award, Nyong\u2019o was criticized for her depiction of suffering as a field-working slave and the object of sexual desire from her master.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 12 Years a Slave film was directed by British director Steve McQueen and is based on a true story of a life of one Solomon Northup, a free black man in New York who was tricked and sold into slavery in Louisiana. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The film director, Steve McQueen said the award is dedicated to those who have suffered slavery all over the world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Everyone deserves not just to survive, but to live, this award is dedicated to all those people who have endured slavery all over the world\u201d he said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lupita Nyong\u2019o debuted in Kenya with her production \u2018In My Genes\u2019 and her starring role in Music Television sex education film \u2018Shuga\u2019 (2009). She was born in Mexico to Kenyan parents and raised in Kenya.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She graduated from Yale School of Drama and acting program in the United States of America at a very tender age.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She first starred in her movie career in the Kenyan television series Shuga and in 2009, she wrote, directed, and produced the documentary In My Genes, about the treatment of Kenya\u2019s albino population in Kenya.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lupita\u2019s stage credits include playing Perdita in The Winter\u2019s Tale, (Yale Repertory Theater), Sonya in Uncle Vanya, Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew, as well as being in the original production of Michael Mitnick\u2019s Elijah.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
