Pakistan\u2019s former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf survived an assassination attempt on Thursday.<\/h1>\n

Islamabad, April 3\/Nationalturk – Pakistan\u2019s former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf, who was this week indicted by special court in high treason case, survived an assassination attempt on Thursday.<\/p>\n

A senior police official said Musharraf was on his way to his Chak Shahzad farmhouse in capital from Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, where he was admitted since January 2, when the bomb went off under a bridge\u00a0 through which his vehicle had to pass.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe explosive device went off few minutes before country\u2019s former military ruler and president was to pass through the bridge. Almost four to six kilograms of explosive material was planted in a pipeline near the bridge. The intensity of the blast caused about a foot deep hole in the ground at the site of the explosion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said fortunately none was injured and no damage was caused. \u201cAfter the explosion, former military ruler was taken home via an alternative route\u201d.<\/p>\n

Musharraf was the target: Police<\/h2>\n

Pakistan newspaper Express Tribune, quoted Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Islamabad police, as saying that Musharraf was the intended target.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s assassination attempt was the fourth attempt on ex-general\u00b4s life. Three of the attempts took place while he was ruling the country.<\/p>\n

The dreaded militant outfit of country Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has vowed to assassinate him.<\/p>\n

Musharraf, who toppled Nawaz Sharif\u2019s government in bloodless coup in 1998 and led Pakistan from 1999 to 2008, returned from self-imposed exile in March last year to fight elections. However, he was barred from contesting polls and has been fighting multiple legal battles. Earlier, this week, he was indicted by a special court in high treason case.<\/p>\n

His plea to visit UAE to meet his 93-year-old ailing mother, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Sharjah, has been turned down by the government. His lawyers will now go to the court.<\/p>\n
