Iran and Pakistan will hold joint naval drill in Hormuz Strait in the Persian Gulf on April 8.<\/h1>\n

Islamabad, April 7\/Nationalturk \u2013 Despite tension prevailing in relations between the two countries, Iran and Pakistan will hold joint naval drill in Hormuz Strait in the Persian Gulf on April 8 (Tuesday).<\/p>\n

Iranian Navy’s second-in-command for operations Rear-Admiral Shahram Irani was quoted as saying by Iran\u2019s official news agency, IRNA that a Pakistani fleet of warships has docked at the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas to hold a joint naval drill with Iran in the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n

He said the flotilla on Saturday arrived in Bandar Abbas where it will stay for four days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important plan of the Pakistani fleet during its stay in Bandar Abbas is to stage joint manoeuvres with select units of the Iranian Navy on April 8 which will be held in the eastern waters of the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d Shahram said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Pakistan fleet comprises missile-launcher warship\u2019<\/h2>\n

The Iranian Navy official said Pakistani fleet comprises a missile-launcher warship, a logistic warship and an advanced submarine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis conveys a message of peace and friendship and will help boost military cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad,\u201d the Iranian Navy\u2019s second in command said.<\/p>\n

Iran recently held joint naval relief and rescue drills with Oman, a member of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s parliament Okays security cooperation pact with Pakistan<\/h3>\n

According to IRNA, Iran\u2019s parliament on Sunday approved Tehran-Islamabad enhanced security cooperation act.<\/p>\n

The bill will prepare the ground for the growing cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad to have joint campaign against terrorist groups operating on the border areas.<\/p>\n

The terrorist groups based in Pakistan have carried out several attacks on Iranian border guards stationed on border line between Iran\u2019s Sistan-Baluchestan province and Pakistan from 2004.<\/p>\n

The capture of Iranian border guards earlier this month, along with the killing of 14 Iranian soldiers last November, was claimed by the militant group Jeish al-Adl.<\/p>\n

The passing of a bill in parliament and news of naval exercises between the navies of two countries come on the eve of a visit to Tehran by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for which both sides are working on mutually agreed dates.<\/p>\n
