Over 20 people were killed and many others injured in a powerful explosion in a market in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Wednesday.<\/h1>\n

Islamabad, April 9\/Nationalturk-: After a brief lull, terrorist attacks are back in Pakistan and over 20 people were killed and many others injured in a powerful explosion caused by terrorists in a crowded vegetable market in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Police sources said explosives planted in a guava box went off with a big bang at the time of auction Pir Wadhai near whose sale market of fruits and vegetables in Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n

When the blast took place vegetable and fruit vendors and large number of people were present in the market to buy fresh vegetables and fruits.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least 20 people died on the spot and dozens others were injured. The injured were rushed to nearby Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n

PIMS Hospital vice-Chancellor, Dr \u00a0Javed Akram said the death toll is 23. \u201cAmong the dozens injured, condition of nine is critical\u201d.<\/p>\n

He expressed fear that the death toll may rise.<\/p>\n

Immediately after the blast, police and security officials cordoned off the area and the Bomb Disposal Squad was combing the area for other explosive devices.<\/p>\n

The blast left a 1.5-metre (five-foot) diameter crater at the site which was littered with bloody body parts.<\/p>\n

2nd<\/sup> terrorist attack in 2 days<\/h2>\n

The blast is the second terror attack in the country in as many days.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, seventeen people were killed and about 50 wounded when terrorists bombed a Rawalpindi-bound train parked at the Sibi Railway Station 120 km southeast of Quetta in restive Balochistan province.<\/p>\n

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain have condemned the blast and killing of civilians.<\/p>\n

In a surprising development, dreaded terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is presently engaged in talks with government has also \u00a0condemned the blast.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was haraam (un-Islamic )and illegal to attack innocent people in public places,\u201d TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid was quoted by Pakistani media as saying.<\/p>\n
