Concerns about Already Missing Girls
\nResidents in the town of Gamboru Ngala near the Cameroonian border in Borno State have told reporters that Boko Haram has stage a latest attack on the town on Monday, killing over 200 people.<\/h1>\n

One resident who spoke to the BBC African Hausa Service said the militants killed more than 300 people in the town. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said Boko Haram went on rampage in the town after spreading a rumor that the abducted girls had been spotted elsewhere, prompting security forces to leave the town.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another witness also said they burned down houses and, shooting randomly at people and slitting people’s throats with knives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There have been conflicting reports about the exact number of people killed. Communications to the area is relatively difficult as a result of Boko Haram\u2019s destruction of Telecommunications equipments in the area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But a police source said there may be more bodies beyond the town in the bush or in the rows of charred houses and the number could be more than 200.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Residents said they are burying their relatives who lost their lives in mass graves and that there is a complete fear in the town.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Public anger mounted Tuesday after another eight girls were abducted from the same remote Borno State area by suspected members of Boko Haram.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has threatened in a video to sell the girls abducted on April 14 from a secondary school in Chibok on the market.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nigeria’s police on Wednesday offered a $300,000 reward to anyone who can help locate and rescue the schoolgirls.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The US, UK and China have all said that they offering help to Nigeria to try and rescue the schoolgirls from Boko Haram.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President Goodluck Jonathan has welcomed the offer but many still blame his government for failing to call for international support earlier.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Social commentators in Nigeria have said that the government has been very slow in responding to the abduction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many political analysts in Nigeria have accused President Jonathan of handling the Boko Haram crisis poorly. They say the army is poorly equipped to engage Boko Haram, making Boko Haram always gaining the upper hand over the military.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

More than 7,000 people have been killed while dozens and dozens of people have been left injured since Boko Haram began their militancy in 2009. The worse of the insurgency by Boko Haram is this year. An estimated 1,000 people have died in the violence by Boko Haram this year alone.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
