Police in northern Nigerian city of Kano have said that a suicide attack in the city has left at least five people dead.<\/h1>\n

Dozens of people were also left injured. Some suffered severe shocked as a result of the intensity of the blast that happened on Sunday night.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The incident happened precisely at the Gold Coast Street in the Sabon Gari Market on a street of popular bars and restaurants. The area is said to be predominantly by Christians. Kano is the largest city in the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A witness to the incident, Abdul Dafar told the Reuters African Service that the blast was terrible and emergency service was quick to respond to the attack.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“I heard a loud blast and there was a lot of smoke, Soldiers came in to cordon off the place and ambulances were rushing people to hospital,” he said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but many people suspect Boko Haram to be behind it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram has carried out attacks in Kano in the past and other areas of northern Nigeria and this would not be surprise to many if it is Boko Haram attack.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This latest bombing comes as the Nigerian authorities and experts from the US continue the search for more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram on 14 April in the town of Chibok in Borno state.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram released a video last week showing more than 100 of the girls and offered an exchange for the girls with its jailed fighters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Nigerian government initially refused the offer and later agreed to negotiate with the militants but issued a statement again saying it would never negotiate with Boko Haram.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

African leaders meeting in Paris at the weekend including President Goodluck Jonathan agreed to wage war on Boko Haram, pledging to share intelligence and co-ordinate action against the group.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The French President, Francois Hollande called Boko Haram a major threat to West and Central Africa and called all leaders around the world to help tackle them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

More than 7,000 people have been killed while dozens and dozens of people have been left injured since Boko Haram began their militancy in 2009.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
