The British army has come under heavy criticism after a report in the British newspaper “Daily Mail” that replica mosques were being used in target practice by British troops set to be deployed to Afghanistan.<\/h1>\n

The article in the Daily Mail on Thursday reported that seven replica mosques were erected in Catterick Garrison, a British army base in North Yorkshire.<\/h2>\n

The target range which the mosques were erected on full view of the main road where hundreds of vehicles go past every day.<\/p>\n

The mosques are being used as a symbol of danger said the chairman of the Bradford Council for Mosques (BCM) who said that they noticed the cut outs resembling mosques as a passer by saw the structures and complained.<\/p>\n

The a spokesman from the British army initially denied the structures were mosques, he also defended that troops should be trained in the environment that they will be deployed to.<\/p>\n

The British army has since apologised for the structures and said it will take it down. “We apologize for any offense that we may have caused. We are working with representatives from the Muslim community and are in the process of removing the offending structures.”<\/p>\n

The already fragile relations of Muslims in Britain is set to get more tense as Muslim leaders see the structures as a blatant offence and are angered by the insensitive and irresponsible behaviour of the British army as the structures were so close to the public eye.<\/p>\n

The British army has also said the Mosques were not used as targets.<\/p>\n

The International Media is expecting an explanation by the British Military.
