Indian Railways Minister on Tuesday said India will soon have bullet trains.<\/h1>\n

New Delhi, July 8\/Nationalturk- Indian Railways Minister Sadananda Gowda while presenting Railway budget on Tuesday said India will soon have bullet trains.<\/p>\n

“It is the wish and dream of every Indian citizen that a bullet train runs in India as early as possible. Indian Railways is on course to fulfill its long cherished dream. I propose a bullet train on the Ahmedabad- Mumbai sector,” Gowda said while presenting the rightwing BJP government’s first railway budget in Indian Parliament today.<\/p>\n

He said Indian Railways is on its way to fulfill the long cherished dream to run a bullet train. \u201cA number of studies have been conducted to start bullet trains in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018Diamond Quadrilateral Network of High Speed Rail\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cIndian Railways is embarking on an ambitious plan to have a Diamond Quadrilateral Network of High Speed Rail, connecting major Metros and growth centers of the country. A provision of Rs.100 crores (Indian currency) has been made in the budget for high Speed project to RVNL\/HSRC (High Speed Rail Corridor) for taking further steps,\u201d Gowda said.
\nHe said while bullet trains would require completely new infrastructure, higher speed for existing trains will be achieved by upgrading the present network.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn effort will be made to increase the speed of trains to 160-200 kmph in select sectors so as to significantly reduce travel time between major cities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister said high speed trains will be introduced in Delhi-Agra, Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Kanpur\u00a0, Nagpur-Bilaspur, \u00a0Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai\u00a0, Mumbai-Goa\u00a0, Mumbai-Ahmedabad\u00a0 and Chennai-Hyderabad sectors in the country.<\/p>\n

The railways remain the main mode of long-distance travel for most of India’s 1.2 billion people.<\/p>\n
