India will be setting up 50 new small airports in the country.<\/h1>\n

New Delhi, July 22\/Nationalturk \u2013 In view of growing air traffic in the country, India has decided to set up 50 new small airports in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndian government has identified 50 locations with potential for small airports in various parts of the country,\u201d India\u2019s Minister of State for Civil Aviation, G.M. Siddeshwara informed lawmakers in Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian parliament.<\/p>\n

He said 50 new small airport will come up at places — Kadapa, Tirupati, Vijayawada,Warangal in Southern state of \u00a0Andhra Pradesh, Along, Daparizo, Pasighat, Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh, Jorhat, Rupsi, Silchar in North-East Assam State, Gaya, Raxaul in Bihar, Bilaspur, Raigarh in Chattisgarh, Daman, Diu in Daman & Diu, Bhawanagar, Jamnagar, Kandla, Keshod in Gujarat, Hisar, Karnal in Haryana, Kishtwar in Indian administered Kashmir, Deoghar, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Belgaum,Hubli in Karnataka, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, Akola, Amravati, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Solapur in Maharashtra, Jharsuguda in Odisha, Ludhiana in Punjab, Bikaner, Kishangarh, Kota in Rajasthan, Thanjavore in Tamil Nadu and Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, Faizabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Moradabad and Saharanpur in country\u2019s most populous State of Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Air traffic in India witnesses growth<\/h2>\n

The minister said the air traffic in terms of aircraft movement and passenger traffic in India has increased during the last three years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe total aircraft movements and passengers have registered a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 3.3% and 5.6% respectively, whereas freight has declined by 1% during FY 2010-11 to FY 2013-14,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister said during the current financial year (April- May, 2014) aircraft movements, passengers and freight traffic has increased by 5%, 5% and 9.9% respectively over traffic handled during (April-May) 2013-14.<\/p>\n

He said Airports Authority of India (AAI) has estimated that traffic at all Indian airports, taken together in terms of aircraft movements, passenger and freight, are expected to grow at the rate of 4.2%, 5.3% and 5% respectively for the next five years.<\/p>\n
