In the first TV debate a good six weeks before the referendum on Scottish independence is Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and former British finance minister Alistair Darling delivered a passionate slugfest. “No one can lead Scotland better than the people who live and work in the country,” Salmond campaigned on Tuesday evening for a Yes to independence from Britain in the referendum on 18 September. Darling, Scot himself, warned his countrymen forcefully: “If we decide to go to us, there is no turning back, no second chance.”<\/p>\n

Known as\u00a0eloquent\u00a0Salmond\u00a0advertises\u00a0that\u00a0renounces\u00a0Scotland\u00a0after\u00a0307 years\u00a0by the United Kingdom.\u00a0Darling\u00a0is committed\u00a0to remain\u00a0in\u00a0the UK.\u00a0The\u00a0opinion\u00a0polls onindependence\u00a0referendum\u00a0currently\u00a0go\u00a0far apart.\u00a0On Tuesday,\u00a0a survey by the\u00a0Ipsos\u00a0Morrishad become\u00a0known\u00a0that sees\u00a0only\u00a040\u00a0percent\u00a0for independence\u00a0and\u00a054\u00a0percent opposed.Other\u00a0polls had\u00a0recently forecast\u00a0a\u00a0tighter\u00a0output.\u00a0Many\u00a0voters were\u00a0also\u00a0still undecided, they said\u00a0recently.<\/p>\n
