Turkish giant club \u00a0Besikstas Legendary president\u00a0Suleyman Seba died at age 88.<\/h1>\n

Suleyman Seba, who was the club’s honorary chairman, surrendered to his illness at the American Hospital in Istanbul on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Suleyman\u00a0Seba was born in 1926 in central Anatolian town of Duzce and briefly played Istanbul giant club Besiktas until 1954, when he quit football following an injury. He joined his club in 1957 as a member of the General Assembly and participated in the Board of Directors in 1963.<\/p>\n

In 1984, Seba ran against his rival Mehmet Ustunkaya and defeated him with 85 votes to be elected as the club’s president. In his 16-year record chairmanship, Be\u015fikta\u015f won staggering 21 championships.<\/p>\n

Under his leadership, Be\u015fikta\u015f won five Turkish League, four Presidential, five Turkey Cup, two Prime Ministry and six Turkish Sports Journalists Association championships. Seba also purchased Akaretler club building, Fulya Stadium camp facilities, Bs\u015fiktas Plaza, Pendik and Cilekli facilities and Be\u015fikta\u015f College during his period.<\/p>\n

Suleyman Seba really trust with the British manager Gordon Milne lived in the golden age of Besiktas<\/p>\n

His club released a statement on Wednedsay, saying that Suleyman Seba will continue to remain as “part of our hearts” and that his name was written in “pages of history with golden letters”.<\/p>\n

Who is Suleyman Seba<\/h2>\n

S\u00fcleyman Seba (born 5 April 1926, Hendek, Sakarya) is a former Turkish football player and was the longest presiding Chairman of the Istanbul based multisports club Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K..He died in 13 August 2014.<\/p>\n

S\u00fcleyman Seba (Abkhaz name Tsyba) was born on 5 April 1926 in So\u011fuksulu, a village in the Sakarya Province of Turkey.<\/p>\n

Sent to Istanbul by his father for education, Seba attended the prestigious Galatasaray High School in the Beyo\u011flu district for a while, but later went to Kabata\u015f High School on the Bosphorus, another prestigious historic Turkish high school, in the Be\u015fikta\u015f district.<\/p>\n

Seba later enrolled into Istanbul University’s Faculty of Literature, but due to his football career he never graduated.<\/p>\n

Seba started to play football in the Kabata\u015f High School team. The promising player was soon discovered by the local football club Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K. and admitted to its junior team. With his contribution, the junior team became the champions of that season, and Seba was promoted to the rank of team captain a short time later. In 1945, he was called to become a member of the A-team.<\/p>\n

Seba went down in Turkish football history when he scored the first ever goal in BJK \u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc Stadium against the Swedish side Allm\u00e4nna Idrottsklubben during the inauguration match of the venue in 1947.<\/p>\n

In 1954, he was forced to retire from his career as a footballer due to a meniscus injury. During his entire professional career he played only for Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K.<\/p>\n

In 1957, Seba became an active member of Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K..<\/p>\n

Six years later, in 1963, he became a member of the club’s Presidential Council.<\/p>\n

In 1984 Seba took the helm of the club, gaining more votes in the presidential election than Mehmet \u00dcst\u00fcnkaya (club president, 1981\u20131984). During this election Seba received the support of the all-time Be\u015fikta\u015f legend “Baba” (Father) Hakk\u0131 Yeten.<\/p>\n

In his second year as chairman, Be\u015fikta\u015f won the Turkish Super League championship for the first time in four years. Be\u015fikta\u015f immediately became the dominant team in Turkey and in the 1986\u20131987 season reached the quarter-finals of the European Champion Clubs’ Cup (known as the UEFA Champions League today) but lost to Dinamo Kiev.<\/p>\n

When Seba brought British manager Gordon Milne, no one knew that Be\u015fikta\u015f was set for years of dominance in the Turkish Super League. With a strong team of young players like “Atom Kar\u0131nca” (Atom Ant) R\u0131za \u00c7al\u0131mbay (team captain), Feyyaz U\u00e7ar, “Sar\u0131 F\u0131rt\u0131na” (Blonde Storm) Metin Tekin, Ali G\u00fcltiken, G\u00f6khan Keskin, Mehmet \u00d6zdilek and Sergen Yal\u00e7\u0131n, Be\u015fikta\u015f won three League titles in a row between 1989\u20131992. Be\u015fikta\u015f later became the League Champions in 1994\u20131995, but then went on for years to finish behind Fatih Terim’s Galatasaray SK.<\/p>\n

Seba went on for a 16-year presidency as club chairman of Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K.. During the elections of 2000, Seba declared that he would not run for another term. Elections were held without his candidacy and Serdar Bilgili became his successor.<\/p>\n

Seba is still one of the most respected figures (and the honorary chairman) of Be\u015fikta\u015f J.K. which became a financially strong club thanks to his efforts \u2013 far stronger than the practically bankrupt club which he took over in 1984.<\/p>\n
