The Cameroonian international footballer, Albert Ebosse who plays for Algerian football club, Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylie also known as JS Kabylie or JSK has been violently killed after a fan threw a stone at him after a league match.<\/h1>\n

The 24 year-old fell instantly and later died in hospital when the stone hit him and medics say he was struck on the soft spot around his head. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the stone was thrown from a section of his own fans as the players left the field after a match which they were defeated at home.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

USM of Algiers had beaten JSK by 2 goals to 1 and Albert Ebosse had scored his side only goal. But some of the fans were not happy with the results, leading to some of them violently clashing with the players after the match.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Local reporters say Algerian authorities have closed down the 1st November stadium- the home ground for JSK indefinitely. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

JSK confirmed the death of Ebosse in a statement posted on the club’s website and promised that the incident will be thoroughly investigated to find the culprit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Algerian Football League president, Mahfoud Kerbadj who was present at the game said Ebosse\u2019s death is a disaster to the Algerian national football. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Something unfortunate cost the life of a young player who, in the space of one season, won the hearts of thousands of Algerians in all stadiums in Algeria,” he said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ebosse was leading the goal scoring chat with 17 goals after 30 matches and has scored 19 goals after 32 overall appearances for the JSK. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Confederation of African Football\u2019s President, Issa Hayatou has called for strong sanctions against the fans to serve as a deterrent to others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“African football cannot be the breeding ground for hooliganism; we expect exemplary sanctions to be taken against this grave act of violence, Violence has no place in African football in particular and sports in general”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“My thoughts go out to the family and friends of this young man who enjoyed his job peacefully and went further to pursue his passion for football abroad, we remain resolute and state in the strongest terms our determination to eradicate all forms of violence and unsportsmanlike conduct in stadiums on the continent”, Mr. Hayatou said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Back home in Cameroon, he had played for Douala Athletic Club, Coton Sport FC and Unisport Bafang before furthering his career abroad.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
