Cameroonian officials have confirmed that some 500 Nigerian soldiers have crossed the border into the country after fierce fighting with Boko Haram militants in northeastern Nigeria.<\/h1>\n

Local reporters in Nigeria say thousands of people have been fleeing the town of Gamboru Ngala in the northeast after Boko Haram sized it from the Nigeria military on Sunday evening.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram released a video on Monday, declaring that the town of Gwoza is its new headquarters for a new Islamic caliphate in Northeastern Nigeria. The video also showed captured weapons and tanks of the Nigerian military and massacre of civilians with the Nigerian military abandoning their position and running for their lives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The militants have been in control of Gwoza since the beginning of August and the military has been struggling to push them out of the town.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, the militants sized two key police training schools in the town of Liman Kara and forced thousands of people out of their homes in the northeast. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram five-year insurgency has intensified in recent months despite the deployment of thousands of extra troops to the worst-affected areas in the northeast part by the Nigerian government. Social Commentators in Nigeria say Boko Haram has made significant gains against the government by encroaching on the territorial integrity of Nigeria.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier last week, a group of about 40 soldiers refused to fight Boko Haram, saying they are too poorly equipped to take on the heavily armed militants.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But the Nigerian military high command has refused to accept that the military was defeated by the militants. A statement from the military high command in the capital, Abuja said that the soldiers had crossed into neighboring Cameroon in a tactical maneuver.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Nigerian defence ministry said the government has begun talks with the Cameroonian government to bring back the soldiers back to Nigeria.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram insurgency since 2009 has killed thousands of people and rendered dozen others homeless across northeastern Nigeria.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Boko Haram has stepped up its attacks ever since it abducted the Chibok schoolgirls in April which sparked an international outrage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An international rescue operation is still being carried out by the US and its allies to be able to locate and free the abducted schoolgirls.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre and the Norwegian Refugee Council has said that more than 3,300 people have been killed by Boko Haram this year alone. Political analysts say this is the worse year for Nigeria since Boko Haram began its campaign in 2009.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he would use force to eliminate Boko Haram from Nigeria to bring back the peace the country enjoyed previously.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But this promise has yielded no results as Boko Haram still attack when and where they like without any resistance from government troops.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The President is also currently seeking an approval of a loan agreement worth $1bn from parliament to help equip the military to be able to fight Boko Haram.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
