Local media in Somalia have said that an Islamic Court administered by Al Shabab has stoned a boy to death in southern Somalia after convicting him of raping a woman on Wednesday.<\/h1>\n

The pro-al Shabab radio station, al-Furqaan said on its website that Hasan Ahmad Ali was found guilty of raping Ms Mohmoud at gunpoint in Dharuro village in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region controlled by Al Shabab.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But Ali who reporters say is 18 years old was said to have denied the charge, saying he had a consensual sexual affair with the woman.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Shabab has carried out stoning and amputations in territory under its control in the past and reporters say this is not new to the population under its control.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An audio recording of the trial went viral on social media in which the judge who adjudicated the case was heard ordering Ali to compensate the woman with a cow before he was stoned to death.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Shabab implements a strict version of Islamic law (Sharia) in areas it controls just like Islamic State (IS) fighters in Syria and Iraq. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last month, a woman was stoned to death in the port town of Barawe after an Islamic court convicted her of having four husbands at the same time. That court too is administered by Al Shabab.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al Shabab used to control the capital, Mogadishu and the southern region of Somalia between 2006 and 2011 but they were driven out of the capital by the African Union peacekeeping forces deployed in 2012 by the African Union with the United Nations support.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Its former leader, Ahmed Godane was killed in a special US aerial bombardment last month in south-central part of the country. Godane was one of the US State Department’s most wanted men with a bounty of $7m for information leading to his arrest or death.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Some 22,000 African Union troops are helping Somalia fight Al-Shabab. Al Shabab wants to seize Somalia and create an Islamic state.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
