\"\"<\/a>Nominees for the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday, with “Birdman” leading the way with seven nods.<\/h1>\n

The awards honor the year’s best in motion pictures and television, separated into \u201cdrama\u201d and \u201ccomedy or musical\u201d categories.<\/p>\n

Included in the nominations for the thematically rich black comedy “Birdman” were best comedy film, best performance by an actor in a comedy for Michael Keaton and best director in a motion picture for Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.<\/p>\n

“The Imitation Game” and “Boyhood” followed with five nominations each, including the most prestigious award, best motion picture — drama.<\/p>\n

The other three nominees in best picture category are “Foxcatcher,” “Selma” and “The Theory of Everything.”<\/p>\n

British actors Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game”), Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) and David Oyelowo (“Selma”) made up three of the five nominees for the best actor in a drama. Steve Carell for “Foxcatcher” and Jake Gyllenhaal for “Nightcrawler,” round out the category.<\/p>\n

The Golden Globes are considered second only to the Academy awards in importance for film, but they are observed closely as a precursor to the Oscars and the ceremony is frequently among television\u2019s most-watched events.<\/p>\n

As for TV, the best series — drama category includes “House of Cards,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife,” “Downton Abbey” and “The Affair.”<\/p>\n

Robin Wright, last year’s winner in the best dramatic actress category, is nominated once again for her role as Claire Underwood on the Netflix political drama \u201cHouse of Cards.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nominees for key categories are available below. The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards will be held Jan. 11 in Beverly Hills, California.<\/p>\n
