{"id":58975,"date":"2017-06-12T16:37:55","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T15:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=58975"},"modified":"2017-06-12T16:37:55","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T15:37:55","slug":"6-2-magnitude-earthquake-hits-western-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/6-2-magnitude-earthquake-hits-western-turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"6.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Western Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale shook western Turkey&#8217;s Izmir province on Monday.<\/h2>\n<p>The quake struck Izmir&#8217;s Karaburun district at 3.28 p.m. local time (1228 GMT) at a depth of 22.98 kilometers (14 miles), according to the country\u2019s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).<\/p>\n<p>AFAD Izmir Director Osman Metin Saroglu said no causalities have been reported so far.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Suha Ozden, vice rector at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Faculty of Engineering Geology Department professor, warned about quake aftershocks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As it is the nature of every earthquake, we can experience aftershocks that can range between 4.9 and 5.2 magnitude in the upcoming days,&#8221; Ozden said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The earthquake we experienced today was a principal earthquake. The aftereffects will definitely not be over 6.2 magnitude,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>In late May, an earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude hit western Manisa province; no causalities were reported in that incident.<\/p>\n<p>Greece was also reportedly affected by an earthquake that struck between the Greek islands of Lesbos and Chios on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Greek Civil Protection, there were no casualties.<\/p>\n<p>However, landslides in southern part of Lesbos ended up blocking some roads while some old buildings in villages had also been damaged.<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
