{"id":59017,"date":"2017-06-20T09:38:05","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T08:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=59017"},"modified":"2017-06-20T09:38:05","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T08:38:05","slug":"turkish-pm-urges-greece-to-return-alleged-coup-plotters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/turkish-pm-urges-greece-to-return-alleged-coup-plotters\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkish PM Urges Greece To Return Alleged Coup Plotters"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim urged Athens Monday to return the alleged coup plotters who are seeking asylum in Greece.<\/h2>\n<p>Yildirim made the statement in Athens where he met Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Greek justice system is completely independent and we have to respect its decisions, regardless of whether we agree with them or not,\u201d Tsipras said, speaking at a joint press conference shortly after their meeting ended. &#8220;Politically speaking, we are clearly against the coup attempt, and coup plotters are not welcome in our country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2016, eight former Turkish soldiers, fled their country hours after a defeated coup attempt, in which 250 people were martyred, and arrived in Greece on a highjacked Blackhawk helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>Ankara has repeatedly requested that the men be extradited in Turkey but the Greek courts have turned down the request twice, after a series of hearings and appeals.<\/p>\n<p><em>According to Anadolu Agency,<\/em> Yildirim responded to Tsipras by saying that even though he acknowledged that judicial and executive branches were different, \u201cwe believe the [alleged coup plotters] should be returned\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On the Cyprus issue, both leaders agreed it was imperative to find a solution that would \u201csafeguard the future and the security of both Turkish and Greek Cypriots\u201d, Yildirim said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want a fresh start with a new vision,\u201d Yildirim told reporters regarding EU-Turkish relations.<\/p>\n<p>He added the migration deal signed in 2015 had helped refugee flow considerably decrease, despite the fact that Europe had not yet fulfilled its part of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVisa liberalization for the Turks and financial support towards the country,\u201d have not yet been properly addressed, the Turkish leader added.<\/p>\n<p>Greece supports Turkey&#8217;s EU accession course, which can help resolve issues and stimulate further cooperation, Tsipras said.<\/p>\n<p>After his meeting with Tsipras, Yildirim met Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
