{"id":59497,"date":"2017-10-27T13:26:25","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T12:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=59497"},"modified":"2017-10-27T13:26:25","modified_gmt":"2017-10-27T12:26:25","slug":"google-doodle-marks-turkish-minstrels-123rd-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/google-doodle-marks-turkish-minstrels-123rd-birthday\/","title":{"rendered":"Google doodle marks Turkish minstrel\u2019s 123rd birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Google on Wednesday marked the 123rd birthday of one of Turkey\u2019s most prominent early 20th century folk poets and singers.<\/h2>\n<p>The search engine\u2019s Turkish home page showed a cartoon of Asik Veysel playing his signature baglama with Turkish carpet motives in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Veysel was born in Sarkisla, a town in the central province of Sivas, on Oct. 25, 1894.<\/p>\n<p>He was blinded during childhood and was given a baglama, a long-necked stringed instrument, by his father and began learning to play and sing.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1930s, he began attracting attention across Turkey after meeting poet Ahmet Kutsi Tecer at a folk poets\u2019 night in Sivas and beginning to play around the country.<\/p>\n<p>His music and poems, often tinged with both happiness and sadness, inspired a new generation of folk artists in Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>Veysel died of lung cancer on March 21, 1973.<\/p>\n<!-- Error, Advert is not available at this time due to schedule\/geolocation restrictions! -->\n<p>Anadolu Agency<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google on Wednesday marked the 123rd birthday of one of Turkey\u2019s most prominent early 20th century folk poets and singers.
