{"id":60297,"date":"2018-03-12T18:42:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T18:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=60297"},"modified":"2018-03-12T18:42:26","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T18:42:26","slug":"turkish-taxi-drivers-protest-uber-ahead-of-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/turkish-taxi-drivers-protest-uber-ahead-of-hearing\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkish taxi drivers protest Uber ahead of hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Amid a legal challenge to Uber, Turkish taxi drivers on Monday protested the ride-sharing company outside an Istanbul courthouse.<\/h2>\n<p>The demonstration, organized by the Istanbul Taxi Drivers Tradesmen\u2019s Association (ITEO) outside the Caglayan Courthouse, had protesters holding signs saying &#8220;Uber = Global Thief&#8221; and &#8220;Uber get out of our country.&#8221; Taxi drivers passing by also supported the protest.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the protesters, ITEO head Eyup Aksu said they are fighting Uber not only for taxi drivers but also to protect the rights and security of the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone has seen taxi drivers\u2019 years-long fight against unlicensed taxis. Uber&#8217;s activities are another aspect of unlicensed taxi transportation&#8230; This situation should concern not only cab drivers but everyone looking after the country&#8217;s interests,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also said: &#8220;The number of taxi license plates is limited.
