Turkey main opposition leader Deniz Baykal quits after alleged sex tape<\/a><\/h2>\nThe Tape which was aired on the Vakit Newspaper with the heading \u201cDeniz Baykal\u2019s sex Video\u201d was posted on the news agencies website habervaktim.com on Friday causing a huge scandal.<\/p>\n
The video stayed on air for only 30 minutes but this was enough for it to go viral on the Internet causing a shock effect in Turkey.<\/p>\n
Deniz Baykal spoke on Monday over the scandal tape which allegedly contained the 71-year-old politician and a fellow Member of Parliament (MP), Nesrin Baytok, who was a former personal secretary of the 18-year leader of the CHP, and announced that he was resigning from his post.<\/p>\n
Deniz Baykal who announced his resignation to a swarm of reporters at the Republican People\u2019s Party headquarters also blamed the government for the video saying \u201cThere is no possibility of the government not knowing of such a disgusting conspiracy which is about to be made public. \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cThose people who act like condemning the conspiracy are those who actually committed the crimes, (though no names were used he referred to a speech by the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who condemned those responsible for the video.)\u201d<\/p>\n
As a response to Deniz Baykal\u2019s comments in front of the Turkish press, the Prime Minister of Turkey. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also called for a press conference in which he condemned the speech of the former leader of the CHP.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister said \u201cJust like you (Media and public) I watched, CHP\u2019s leader, Deniz Baykal\u2019s speech on TV with astonishment.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen my friends (MP\u2019s) informed me of the incident (alleged sex tape), in days leading to the main vote of the constitutional reform in the Turkish parliament, though I did not watch the video myself, I acted from what friends told me and immediately spoke with the Transportation & Communication Minister to do whatever is possible to stop the video from spreading.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the government, we cannot sit and watch such videos which are against the morals of people to go around in such a way.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSecret filming and these ugly images, to be seen on the Internet is against morals, the law, un-principle, inhuman and is not something that we will tolerate,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhich is why we tried our utmost to try and stop the circulation of the videos,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI also told members of my government, that should they be faced with questions regarding the incident, they should not allow time for any speculation and say that, though the Republican People\u2019s Party is our political rival and we dispute and argue in many aspects regarding politics, such personal matters will never go under out evaluation context,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cand the situation that we are in should not be turned into a political polemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever because this hole incident evolved around the leader of a political party, a large chunk of the media has given special attention to the incident, which we do not approve of.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the contrary of all our good nature and support, the announcements, of the main opposition party leader was as ugly and as low level as the incident which occurred and has turned into a political slur.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one, No one has the right to involve me, my friends, our government and our party in their ugly behavior and cannot bring us down to their level. \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cRather then questioning our good natured actions, trying to make his own personal problems our problems and to politicize the whole incident, he should show the maturity which is expected of him at least in these important days.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBeside this, if he (Baykal) has any data or information regarding this incident, he should share this information and data with the media, the right government bodies and the police.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOur citizens are watching the incident with surprise.\u201d
