In an all-caps tweet addressing to Rouhani, Trump said: \u201cNever, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.\u201d<\/p>\n
His Twitter post comes after Rouhani in an address in Iranian capital Tehran criticized Washington for its policy on Iran saying: “Peace with Iran would be the mother of all peace and war with Iran would be the mother of all wars.”<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death. Be cautious!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n
Tension has remained high between the two countries since May when Trump withdrew the U.S. from a nuclear deal, which was signed in 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 group of nations (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany).<\/p>\n
The 2015 deal places restrictions on Iran\u2019s nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief.<\/p>\n
Hours before Trump took to Twitter to blast Iran, the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo used an address at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Center for Public Affairs to criticize Iran.<\/p>\n
Pompeo said the Iranian government resembled a \u201cmafia\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe United States condemns the oppression levied on the Iranian people by those who rule unjustly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also accused the Iranian regime of trying to convince Europe not to leave the nuclear deal, while \u201cthey\u2019re covertly plotting terrorist attacks in the heart of Europe\u201d.<\/p>\nError, group does not exist!
