{"id":62578,"date":"2019-03-11T11:12:55","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T11:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=62578"},"modified":"2019-03-30T19:58:45","modified_gmt":"2019-03-30T19:58:45","slug":"germany-stands-by-its-responsiblities-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/germany-stands-by-its-responsiblities-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Germany stands by its responsiblities in Afghanistan&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>With a visit by Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Germany on Monday vowed it would continue to assume responsibility in conflict-torn Afghanistan for peace and development.<\/h2>\n<p>Maas landed in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif \u2013 where the bulk of German troops in the country are stationed for a NATO mission \u2013 late Sunday, and held meetings with the Afghan leadership in Kabul on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGermany stands by its responsibility, which we have assumed as the second-largest donor and troops contributor,\u201d Maas tweeted after landing in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The top German diplomat was quoted by local Tolo News as saying peace is possible in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe landmark presidential elections in Afghanistan are scheduled for July, and there has been movement in the quest for a peace process with the Taliban, also thanks to the U.S. initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Chancellor Angela Merkel&#8217;s Cabinet decided to extend Germany&#8217;s military mission in Afghanistan for one more year.<\/p>\n<p>Germany has some 1,200 soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, part of NATO&#8217;s Resolute Support mission.<\/p>\n<p>After Afghanistan, Maas is set to proceed to Pakistan.<\/p>\n<!-- Error, Advert is not available at this time due to schedule\/geolocation restrictions! -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a visit by Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Germany on Monday vowed it would continue to assume responsibility in conflict-torn Afghanistan for peace and development.
