Major General N George (GoC Kilo Force) told media that a big group of 14-22 militants had been roaming in dense forest area in Rafiabad, some 80 odd kms North of Srinagar after their infiltration from Pakistani controlled Kashmir (PcK).<\/h2>\n\u201cAfter receiving inputs we launched a major combing operation the forest area and upper reaches in North Kashmir adjacent to Line of Control (defacto border with Pakistan in Kashmir) early this month. We established the first contact with the militants on May 5. Since then different encounters have taken place between the well-armed militants and soldiers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The officer said 11 militants and two soldiers have been killed in different encounters so far. \u201cWe have pressed additional men into service and widened the scope of search operation. On Monday morning, the soldiers had a brief encounter with the hiding militants. The militants took advantage of hostile weather conditions and managed to escape from the area during the course of gunfight. There were no casualties on either side,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Major General N George claimed that army busted a militant hide-out in North Kashmir forests and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition. \u201c10 AK rifles, 160 MM mortars, one rocket projectile gun, three .303 rifles, 100 grenades, 1000 rounds of ammunition, one anti-personnel mine were recovered from the hideout,\u201d he said adding the militants had managed to escape from the area before the raid conducted by the soldiers.<\/p>\n
