Greece denied that it attended technical talks with a Turkish military delegation at NATO headquarters, according to its official news agency.<\/p>\n
ANA news agency quoted diplomatic sources in Athens as saying that the Greek delegation did not \u201cexchange views\u201d with Turkish authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey said that a Greek officer went to the office of the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee to submit Greece’s comments on the NATO Secretary-General’s proposals on a possible de-escalation mechanism,\u201d ANA said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Chairman of the Military Committee asked the Greek officer for a series of clarifications on the submitted comments,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Claiming that \u201cthere was no dialogue with the Turkish officers,\u201d the sources said, Turkey\u2019s statements on the meeting was a \u201cpart of Turkey’s ongoing effort to present an unrealistic picture in order to avoid potential sanctions,\u201d according to ANA.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Turkey\u2019s National Defense Ministry said the technical meeting at NATO headquarters between Turkish and Greek military delegations concluded.<\/p>\n
Both sides discussed measures aimed at preventing possible military engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean, the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Another meeting is expected to be held in the coming days, it added.<\/p>\n
Greece has disputed Turkey’s current energy exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, trying to box in Turkish maritime territory based on small islands near the Turkish coast.<\/p>\n
Turkey has sent out drill ships to explore for energy on its continental shelf, saying that Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have rights in the region.<\/p>\n
