A gunman fired at a building materials company near Smithsburg, US, killing three people. One person was seriously injured, the sheriff’s office said.<\/p>\n

The suspect then fled in a vehicle but was caught by police. According to authorities, there was an exchange of fire in which the suspect and a police officer were injured. Both people would receive medical treatment.<\/p>\n

It is currently unclear whether the suspect or the fatalities were employed by the company. The FBI got involved in the investigation.<\/p>\n

“Terrible Shootout”<\/h3>\n

US Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat politician, lamented the loss of life in the community. He promised to take countermeasures. “Today’s horrific shooting comes as our state and nation witnesses tragedy after tragedy and it must stop,” Van Hollen said.<\/p>\n
