But while this became a legend, the 928 did not get a successor after its end in 1995. It&#8217;s a pity really, because with its pop-up headlights and the striking rear end, the top model of the time was massively different from other Porsches and has sold around 60,000 units since it was launched in 1978.<\/p>\n<p>Now the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.porsche.com\/international\/accessoriesandservice\/classic\/models\/928\/928\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">928 is back<\/a>. In a small number, however, and not as an official Porsche product &#8211; but as a so-called restomod (composed of restored and modified, i.e. a renewed version of a classic). The French company Nardone Automotive has brought the legendary Gran Turismo up to date based on an original vehicle, but reinterpreted it in its form.<\/p>\n<p>That means: while the basic form has remained, designer Carlo Borromeo has completely modernized other elements such as the pop-up headlights, but also the front and rear aprons. Among other things, the LED front lights are now fixed to the body, the 18-inch wheels are reminiscent of the original manhole cover rims, which were 16 inches at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the driver and passenger luxuriate in rich leather, gaze at &#8217;80s digital-style displays while simultaneously pairing their smartphones with the new built-in infotainment.<\/p>\n<p>Technically, the 928 from Nardone relies on the classic eight-cylinder V naturally aspirated engine, which is now said to deliver 395 hp. Originally, the top version reached 350. There is also a suitable modern engine control unit and a six-speed instead of a five-speed gearbox. A limited-slip differential, stronger brakes and adaptive steering as well as an electronic damper system were also installed as part of the complete renovation, so that the classic should feel like a new car on excursions. The first copies will be delivered in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The price? Still unknown.
