{"id":7722,"date":"2010-07-13T15:57:26","date_gmt":"2010-07-13T12:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=7722"},"modified":"2010-07-13T15:57:26","modified_gmt":"2010-07-13T12:57:26","slug":"17-die-44-missing-in-china-landslide-after-torrential-rain-42562455","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/17-die-44-missing-in-china-landslide-after-torrential-rain-42562455\/","title":{"rendered":"17 die 44 missing in China landslide after torrential rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"font-size: 1.5em;\">Chinese authorities have confirmed that at least 17 people have been killed and a further 44 are missing due to a landslide that was triggered after torrential rain.<\/h1>\n<h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7723\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7723\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7723 \" title=\"china torrential rain\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/china-torrential-rain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7723\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo by : AP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The catastrophe occurred at the Yunnan province western China, near a township in the city of Zhaotong, after a large portion of a mountain came crashing into dozens of homes.<\/h2>\n<p>According to local media, up to 38 people were injured with 11 in serious condition while another 44 people were also missing.<\/p>\n<p>A local official who spoke to a local news agency said &#8220;The township is located in a river valley surrounded by mountains, people were buried in their homes,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The landslide was caused by torrential rain in the area said the same official.<\/p>\n<p>The landslide was so huge it effected a further two towns in the area where several people were reported to have been killed, injured or missing but by far the worst hit area was the Yunnan province.<\/p>\n<p>The torrential rain almost caused a reservoir to overflow in the western city of Golmud where waters had risen to at least a metre over the warning line and 10,000 people were evacuated by.<\/p>\n<p>Soldiers and workers were deployed to the area where sandbags, dirt and rocks were used and an emergency waterway was made with bulldozers.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese authorities have reported that 483 people had died in 2010 related to floods and a further 255 missing.<\/p>\n<p>It is normal for certain areas of China to experience rain in the first few days of July and has caused damages of up to $1.3 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Write your comments and thoughts below.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
