It was a hot topic that Louk, who was thought to be unconscious, had his leg in a reverse position and was half-naked. In the same video, Hamas militants were seen spitting and insulting Louk.<\/p>\n<p>While the family of the 23-year-old young woman initially said that they believed that their daughter was alive, it was announced yesterday that Louk had been killed. Yesterday evening, Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke to the German media. Speaking to Bild, Herzog said, \u201cI am really sorry to say this, but we have received the news that Shani Nicolee Louk was murdered and died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Herzog: \u201cLouk&#8217;s skull has been found. DNA results also enabled identification. This means that these barbaric, sadistic animals cut off his head while attacking, torturing, and killing Israelis. &#8220;This is a great tragedy and I offer my deepest condolences to his family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Louk&#8217;s mother, Ricarda Louk, also spoke to German media outlet RTL\/ntv. Louk said, \u201cAt least he didn&#8217;t suffer. &#8220;My daughter&#8217;s body has not been found yet, but a piece of her skull was found and DNA testing revealed that it belongs to my daughter,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1271\" height=\"715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yAccSuio4is\" title=\"Mother of Shani Louk Says Daughter Still Alive and in Critical Condition | WSJ News\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Family of Shani Louk, woman Hamas took to Gaza, confirm she was killed<\/h3>\n<p>Young Israeli-German woman was initially believed to have been kidnapped alive in attack on Supernova music festival<\/p>\n<p>A young Israeli-German woman whose fate became indelibly associated around the globe with the Hamas massacre and mass kidnapping rampage of 7 October was killed during the attack, her family has said.<\/p>\n<p>Shani Louk, aged 22, was initially believed to have been kidnapped alive during Hamas\u2019s assault on a music festival in Re\u2019im, after she was paraded semi-naked through Gaza, apparently unconscious on the back of a pickup truck.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, however, Louk\u2019s sister Adi confirmed that Shani had died, probably during the attack, after the discovery of human remains that suggested injuries that would not have been survivable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of my sister, Shani Nicole Z.L. , who was on October 7, 2023, at the party massacre in Re\u2019im,\u201d Adi wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Israeli foreign ministry said Louk had experienced \u201cunfathomable horrors\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Louk was seen in footage shared on the day of the attack lying motionless in the back of a vehicle after being seized and brought into Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Louk\u2019s mother Ricarda said she believed her daughter was alive and being held in a hospital in Gaza, but informed German television on Sunday that her daughter was no longer alive.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports in the German and Israeli media, a cousin of Louk\u2019s said that the family received an official notice from the Israel Defence Forces and the voluntary emergency response organisation Zaka that a bone from the base of Louk\u2019s skull had been found and matched with Louk\u2019s DNA.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors determined that a person cannot live without the found bone and concluded that Louk could not possibly still be alive. The determination of death was conducted by the Israeli National Institute of Forensic Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday said that the death of Louk showed what he called the barbarism of Hamas and the need to hold the Palestinian militant group to account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, this news is terrible,\u201d Scholz said during an official visit to Africa. \u201cThis shows all the barbarism that lies behind Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Louk was at the Supernova music festival near Re\u2019im on 7 October when Hamas terrorists launched their assault.<\/p>\n<p>Video of Louk, a tattoo artist, taken before the massacre showed her dancing with friends at the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother had earlier told Germany\u2019s Bild that she had last spoken to her daughter at the festival as gunfire rang out, losing contact when her daughter took cover in bushes.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later video emerged of the body of a woman, in the back of a white pickup truck with several gunmen being taken to Gaza, who her family quickly recognised.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, Germany\u2019s Der Spiegel reported that the German partner of Louk\u2019s aunt had been told she was alive and being treated for injuries at a hospital in Gaza\u2019s Beit Lahia.<\/p>\n<p>At least 260 people were killed among the festival tents and in the fields and roads surrounding it on the morning of 7 October, part of the deadliest attack on Israel in decades.
