TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has parted ways with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. This was announced by the “Kicker” and the “Bild” newspaper on Monday.<\/p>\n

The 46-year-old took over the team in February 2023, and his contract in Hoffenheim actually ran until next summer.<\/p>\n

The Europa League participant is currently in 15th place in the table with just nine points from ten games. Hoffenheim’s sports director Andreas Schicker said on Sunday after the 0-0 draw at FC Augsburg: “If you play at this rate, you are in danger of relegation. That is the rate that is not sufficient in the end.”<\/p>\n

Successor from Austria?<\/h3>\n

Matarazzo himself said after the goalless draw: “I’m not afraid of anything, what will happen will happen. I’m doing my job as well as I can, I can’t influence the rest.” <\/p>\n

With the draw in Augsburg, which was also achieved thanks to his strong goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, the American-born player was obviously not able to fully convince the management.<\/p>\n

According to media reports, a successor is already in place for Matarazzo. As the pay-TV broadcaster Sky and the “Kicker” report, Christian Ilzer is to take over TSG in the future. <\/p>\n

The 47-year-old Austrian has been the coach of Sturm Graz for four years and most recently led the club to a double win and into the Champions League together with Hoffenheim’s current sports director Schicker.<\/p>\n
