Trump said the atmosphere was \u201cpositive\u201d and that Hamas had made \u201cimportant concessions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Two years after the war began<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The talks coincide with the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and saw more than 250 people taken hostage.<\/p>\n<p>In the ensuing war, over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, and the enclave\u2019s infrastructure has been devastated.<\/p>\n<p>A UN inquiry recently concluded that Israel committed genocide in Gaza \u2014 an accusation Israel has firmly denied.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Indirect negotiations under tight security<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>According to Egyptian state media, the delegations are not meeting face-to-face. Instead, mediators from the U.S., Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey are engaging in shuttle diplomacy.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of talks focuses on the release of 48 remaining Israeli hostages \u2014 about 20 believed to be alive \u2014 in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s 20-point plan also calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the creation of an International Stabilization Force, and the formation of an interim administration to govern the territory.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Trump: \u201cThis is about more than Gaza \u2014 it\u2019s peace in the Middle East\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump said he believes \u201ca real and lasting peace deal\u201d is within reach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a very good chance of making a deal. It\u2019s beyond Gaza \u2014 this is really peace in the Middle East,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also warned both sides to \u201cmove fast\u201d or risk further bloodshed.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Israel marks October 7 without official ceremony<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While Israel commemorates the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks, the official state remembrance ceremony will not take place until October 16, corresponding to the 24th of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Civil groups and survivors\u2019 associations are organizing local memorials, including a concert by the nonprofit KUMU, made up of survivors from southern Israel.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged students not to attend pro-Palestinian demonstrations on the anniversary, calling such protests \u201cun-British\u201d and warning against \u201crising antisemitism on our streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Aid organizations on standby<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The United Nations said humanitarian teams in Gaza are \u201cready to move immediately\u201d should a ceasefire be approved.<\/p>\n<p>The International Committee of the Red Cross also expressed readiness to mediate the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A fragile hope after two years of war<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The current round of talks follows a tense period in which Israel reportedly targeted Hamas\u2019s lead negotiators in Qatar last month.<\/p>\n<p>Diplomatic sources say both parties now show \u201ca genuine willingness\u201d to reach a compromise.<\/p>\n<p>However, several key issues remain unresolved \u2014 including Hamas\u2019s disarmament, the future governance of Gaza, and Israel\u2019s withdrawal timeline.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FcC4Rs0Z49Q\" title=\"Gen.
