Naomi Campbell, the British supermodel is giving evidence in court for the trial of former Liberian President and alleged \u201cwar lord\u201d Charles Taylor for Sierra Leone in The Hague.<\/h1>\n

The British model, 40, was put in the witness box after a subpoena was issued on her name after she refused to appear in court.<\/h2>\n

The 40-yeart-old top model would have risked charges if she had not attended the war court.<\/p>\n

Campbell\u2019s appearance at court could be vital proof that the former President of Liberia, Charles Taylor, who was involved in a 10-year civil war had indeed possessed so called \u201cblood diamonds\u201d, a charge which Mr Taylor denies.<\/p>\n

Blood Diamonds is a term given to diamonds which are mined in areas which are controlled by rebel or outlawed groups or armies and used for violence such as purchasing guns and other weapons.<\/p>\n

Ms Campell had initially denied being given any such diamonds at a dinner party by Nelson Mandela in South Africa in 1997.<\/p>\n

However actress Mia Farrow had told an US based news agency that Campbell had told her that Charles Taylor\u2019s men had turned up at Campbell\u2019s hotel room in the early morning hours and given her a small bag which contained dirty stones alleged to be \u201cblood diamonds\u201d.<\/p>\n

Farrow told ABC news “You don’t forget when a girlfriend tells you she received a huge diamond in the middle of the night,”<\/p>\n

Campbell is alleged to be the head of a rebel group who were renowned for their savage acts of violence such as hacking of the hands and feet off their victims.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of thousands of people died in the Sierra Leone civil war and many more had received severe injuries.<\/p>\n

Taylor stands on a mountain of evidence against him and is on trial for rape, mutilation, 11 counts of instigating murder and creating underage (children) solders.<\/p>\n

Ms Campbell had first been reluctant in appearing at the special war court and had said she did not want to appear as she feared for her and her family\u2019s life.<\/p>\n
